Soapbox: The Trojan Horse on Substack
Didn't expect this one...
On The Ball is my (Matt Ball) own writings in the fields of macroeconomics, geopolitics, investment opportunities and travel. I break my website down into six categories:
1. My thoughts, findings and research
Macroeconomics and country-specific write ups
Business and Investment PowerPlay (Stock Write Ups and Analysis)
Finance and Geopolitics
Travel (my experiences)
Global Chaos and Big Picture Trends
Collectively, I cover an array of topics that overlap with these themes, drawing inspiration from too many names to list, but experts in these fields that are popular on the internet (if you find the correct algorithm).
I’m pleased if I can amount to a fraction of what these experts can conjure up in their immediate thoughts…(so far, if you were a member buying our stock recommendations you would be more than pleased). However, the fact is that I’m only one writer, one voice, one analyst. The world would be a much better place of high-quality information if we had more intelligent voices active, like yours.
Therefore, I’ve created an entire application on my own time that functions as a social blogging platform to host your opinions, ideas, research, and experiences across an array of topics. The name of it is Soapbox.
At first you may be thinking, that is the dumbest thing I’ve ever heard…I am reading this on Substack, and you say you’ve created a Substack 2.0…?
Soapbox is different from Substack from a few different angles that make it strongly worthy of your consideration. Here are some of them:
Nasty Algos: Soapbox doesn’t have a built in nasty algorithm that flags your account on a moments notice where you’re left wondering what you did or didn’t say. Hence, we are more free-speech oriented.
Soapbox Second Chance: Soapbox, is a fresh start. Let’s face it. Substack and Medium already have the winning writers who have captured the platform. I don’t make really any money on here and I’m sure you don’t make as much as you’d like. Soapbox is a first-come, first-serve opportunity to gain reader traction.
Affordable: Soapbox takes a 8.5% cut on whatever you decide to charge (if you decide to Set your own Subscription) vs. Substack’s 10%. If you decide to operate on performance scores, there is an annual payment of $39.99 to join as a subscriber (cheaper than Medium). Soapbox Business clients receive added privacy, enhanced earning potential, article advertisement & team onboarding is $119.00 a year. Writers have optionality on how they wish to monetize their work
Our Utility Coin: Soapbox offers Kudos Credits. What are they? Kudos are your way of rewarding and receiving praise for great work. Users with MORE Kudos have a higher probability of ranking higher on the platform, and thus have a higher chance of receiving a payout.
Investor Optionality: Soapbox is a very lean platform built with sweat equity. From an investment point of view, there is tremendous asymmetric upside as soon as Soapbox acquires more active users. You have an interesting privately'-placed opportunity as a financier.
Of course there are more features, such as our 2cents microblogging pages, follower features, trophy wall for collecting Kudos & more. However, for you, both as a reader and a writer, Soapbox should be an exciting opportunity to diversify or move your work over to this new, upcoming platform to monetize your work!
